Pendle View Medical Practice is supporting vital COVID 19 research. As part of this, we are helping to carry out a national priority research study called PRINCIPLE.

If you have symptoms of COVID 19, are aged 65 or over, OR are aged 50-64 and have an existing health condition, you may be eligible to join this important study.

If you'd like to discuss taking part in PRINCIPLE, please contact us.

Please see for full details of this study.

If you'd like to know more about COVID 19 research and how you can contribute, please visit the Be Part of Research site,, which is run by the National Institute for Health Research.

Pendle View Medical Centre is working with the University of Oxford to provide a self-swab to patients who have symptoms suggestive of coronavirus.

You may be eligible for a self-swab test to determine if you have coronavirus if you presently have the symptoms listed below and they started less than 7 days ago.

Fever and/or your temperature is over 37.8C

New continuous/persistent cough; A new, continuous cough means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours

Altered sense of taste or smell

If you wish to take part please contact the surgery on 01282 731740.  You will be given a telephone triage appointment with the research nurse on Monday/Wednesday or Friday and if appropriate a self-swabbing test will be organised.   We will need your up to date mobile phone number and email address if possible.

If you have been asked to call 111 you should still follow this guidance.

You may still be eligible if you have already contacted the surgery and been diverted to 111 as long as this is within the last 7 days.

The swabbing kit is only suitable for patients with symptoms, it will not confirm whether antibodies are present to exclude if the patient has already had the virus or is immune to the virus.

We can only do this test on patients currently registered at Pendle View Medical Centre.
